Homework

The children are given new spellings to learn at home every Wednesday which correspond with their phonics taught that week through Read, Write, Inc. The children will complete their spelling activity when they return to school the following Monday to help them build their confidence and improve their spelling.

I will also set regular activities on Giglets to give the children opportunities to practise their reading and comprehension skills at home.

The children are also encouraged to regularly access RMEasimaths and TTRockstars to practise their maths skills and develop their confidence with times tables.

A little bit of regular practice at home can make a spectacular difference to the children’s confidence and progress!

Reading

As I’m sure you’re aware, reading is incredibly important and plays a huge part in your child’s learning and development. We kindly ask that you try to listen to your child read as often as you can. Even just 5 minutes a day can make a real difference. It is also really beneficial for children to be read to by an adult. Sharing a story together helps develop vocabulary, comprehension, imagination and a love of books.

Your child will bring home a reading book and reading record, which we kindly ask you to complete when you have listened to them read.

We also encourage children to read anything and everything! Reading doesn’t always have to be a storybook. Magazines, comics, recipe books, instructions, newspapers and even signs can all provide valuable opportunities to practise reading.

Snacks

As part of our healthy school initiative, children are encouraged to bring cheese, fruit or yoghurt, grapes will need to be cut in half. Please can you ensure your child brings a labelled drink bottle with them every day to remain hydrated.

Uniform

Please ensure all uniform and your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with their name.

Equipment

The school provides all of the relevant stationary and equipment needed for the school day. Therefore, stationary or similar items, toys and games from home are not to come to class to avoid any disruptions. There is plenty here for the children to play with.
