Whole School Topics 2023-2024

Autumn – All About Me

Spring – Cymru a’r Byd

Summer – Beneath My Feet

At the beginning of each topic the children are encouraged to share ideas about what it is they would like to learn and these ideas are incorporated into the planning process to ensure learning is relevant and also engaging for children.

Reading

Children will bring their reading books home every Friday and they must be returned every Monday.

Reading is very important as I am sure you are aware. Therefore, as we do in school, please practise with your child at home, it will all benefit.

An assortment of reading materials will only enhance your child’s enjoyment of reading as well as develop their reading skills.

All the children have access to Giglets.

Spelling

The words are put onto Spell Blast on HWB every Thursday and the children are encouraged to use this in school and at home on a daily basis. The children will have a spelling test every Monday.

Maths

The children have an Easi Maths username and password, which they can use at home. Please encourage them to do this at home as it will all benefit their learning and the questions set on the programme cover the whole range of Mathematics.

Topic

Children will occasionally be asked to complete a Topic task at home and this is only to assist them in their work in class.

World Book Day

The children all look lovely in their comfortable clothes and their costumes for World Book Day. They have been sharing their favourite books with each other, designing a book cover and doing a character description of their favourite character.

The BFG

Our class story is The BFG. The children are thoroughly enjoying listening to the story and learning all the new language of The BFG.

The display outside class is our creative writing that we have been doing based on the story of The BFG. If you walk passed, have a read!

Food Tasting

The children worked hard during their half term holiday to create a flag that represents Wales. The winner will be announced in our St David’s Day assembly on March 1st. Pob lwc!

Dydd Crempog

Pancake day was during half term this year so the children in Dosbarth Glas made pancakes in school a few days early. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning how to make pancakes. They measured the ingredients accurately, mixed them all together and they even had a go at tossing the pancakes. The best bit was choosing their topping/s and finally eating them. The children also wrote an acrostic poem about pancake day and enjoyed learning about pancake day traditions in different countries.

Dydd Santes Dwynwen

Music Workshop
Topic – All About Me

When we did our topic planning at the beginning of the term lots of us wanted to find out what’s inside our bodies and what our organs and bones are called. Before Miss taught us anything we had to show Miss what we already knew and we worked in groups to label the body and we shared this with the rest of the class and so we were learning from each other.
