Community Focused School
Ysgol Golwg Y Cwm is proud to be a Community Focused School.
‘All children and young people should be well prepared for their future lives. This is the aspiration of the Curriculum for Wales; enabling them to become ambitious, enterprising, ethical and healthy, supporting their careers, relationships, health and well-being. There should be equity in education and all children and young people should be supported to overcome barriers and fulfil their potential. This means supporting children and young people to develop a wide range of skills, experiences and dispositions that enable them to thrive.
The school has a key role in achieving this, but the home environment and the wider community are also significant influences. By working collaboratively across school, home and the community we can support our children and young people more effectively.
We believe every child, every family and every community have strengths to build upon. By working in partnership, we are better able to find solutions that meet the needs of the individual learner and their family. (Welsh Government, 2022, ‘Children and Young People’s Plan’)’.

February/March 2024
We are hosting a 4x weekly course for parents/carers at Ysgol Golwg Y Cwm on Wednesdays to support their children with the Maths curriculum.

January 2024
We used our Community Room space to host the Health Protection teams event ‘Eat Smart, Save Better’. We held 2x sessions in January where families were encouraged to sign up to sessions to discuss healthy food shops and how to complete them cost effectively. We had 10x parents sign up each week! All of which got to take home a HUGE bag of food with a recipe book with the ingredients given!
November/December 2023
We done some Family Cooking Sessions with Amber, our Family Liaison Officer in the Community Room Space. Families who signed up to do it really enjoyed!
We held a Coffee Morning in the Community Room in November. We hosted professionals who were able to provide support and information to our families. It was a great success!

The Community Room space is booked out on Thursdays between 09:00-11:00 so families are welcome to come in and have a cuppa and a chat with Amber the Family Liaison Officer.
